The MARA (Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance) is designed to be a simple and durable bite corrector. The appliance is attached to the patient's first molars with stainless steel crowns. This appliance requires no compliance from the patient and is reliable in shortening treatment time. The MARA can be used with or without maxillary expansion. Braces are usually placed in conjunction with this appliance so alignment of the teeth can be done simultaneously with bite correction. The MARA appliance is used to enhance the growth of the lower jaw in a forward direction, while at the same time applying pressure to the upper jaw in a backwards direction. The MARA appliance is generally used for approximately 6-12 months of treatment.
